CLINTON, S.C.— In their final contest for the 2009 campaign, the Davidson women's lacrosse team broke out of a long scoring slump with a season-high 20 goals as six players tied or had season bests in points to guide the Wildcats to a 20-9 win at Presbyterian on Tuesday afternoon.

Davidson snapped its eight-game losing streak to finish out the '09 season with a 6-10 mark. The win was also the 'Cats first of the season on the road. The Blue Hose fell to 2-10 on the season.

The junior duo of Jen Crawford and Haley Cook led the Wildcat attack with four goals each on their way to season highs in points. Crawford earned a game-best six points on four goals and dished out two assists, while Cook tallied four goals and assisted on another for five points.

The duo were two of six 'Cats to score at least two goals in the game as Davidson scored more then 10 goals in a game for the first time since a Mar. 12th 13-10 win over Suny Cortland. Besides its season-best 20 goals, Davidson also record season bests in assists (6), shots (32) and shots on goal (30).

After Cook and Crawford gave Davidson a quick 2-0 lead with back-to-back goals to open the game, Presbyterian's Marie-Liset Dimitrew cut the lead down to one at the 24:39 mark after she got a pass from Jenna Handshoe to net a goal.

Dimitrew was one of three Blue Hose to tally two or more goals in the contest, finishing with two scores. Jordan Newberry paced the team with three goals.

The 2-1 score was as close as the Blue Hose got as Davidson exploded for seven unanswered goals over the next 12 minutes to take control of the game and eventually the win. Cook netted three of the seven goals, while Crawford added two in the scoring outburst.

Davidson went on to add seven more goals in the half for a halftime score of 16-4. Freshman Liz Wall matched her career-high with two scores in the half and her fellow classmate, Jenna Mugele also registered two goals in the half.

Playing in their final games, the senior tandem of Callie Seymour and Heather Frohman capped off their Wildcat careers with three and two goals each in the contest.

Goalkeeper Michele Pav was credited with two saves for the win between the pipes.

The Wildcats as a team had 18 groundballs, caused nine turnovers, picked up 17 draw controls and was 7-of-10 in free-position shots, all game highs.
