DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson Wildcats rallied from a 20-6 loss in the first game of a double-header with The Citadel Bulldogs to win the nightcap, 5-4, behind sophomore pinch hitter Will General's game-winner that drove in a pair of runs in the 10th inning, in Southern Conference baseball action Saturday at Wilson Field.

Davidson improves to 13-15 overall, while The Citadel moves to 19-13. The teams have identical 8-6 league records and will meet in the rubber match tomorrow at 1 p.m.

In the first game of the double dip, the Bulldogs put up 25 hits to the tune of 20 runs, while the Wildcats would manage just six runs on six hits. The Citadel started the scoring fest with a five-spot in the top of the second and would continue to add runs in bunches.

Citadel starter Wres Wrenn (5-1) sprinkled seven hits for four runs over a strong 7 1/3 innings to earn the win. Richard Jones and David Greene each had four hits to lead the Bulldogs in game one.

Davidson's Thomas Middour (2-3) allowed eight runs on 10 hits in 4 1/3 to take the loss. Seth Freeman and Zach Kayne each recorded a pair of hits for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats bounced back in a big way in the second game, due mainly to locked-in pitching by freshman Chris Lamb, who scattered six hits for a lone run in a career-high 6 2/3 innings with four strikeouts.

The Citadel's Asher Wojciechowski was equal to the task, limiting the 'Cats to three runs on six hits in seven innings, while walking just one and striking out 10.

Neither pitcher, though, factored into the decision, as the Bulldogs scored a run in both the eighth and ninth to force the extra inning.

Chase FitzPatrick put the Wildcats on the board with a leadoff home run in the second, but the Citadel got it back in the top of the sixth.

Davidson finally got to Wojciechowski for a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to take a slim 3-1 lead. James Cerbie doubled, was sacrificed to third and scored on Kayne's double down the left field line. A batter later, Pat Brady drove Kayne in to give Lamb some insurance runs.

Lamb wouldn't get out of the seventh, extended by an error on a dropped strikeout, and Ian Horkley would be summed for the final out, stranding a Bulldog runner in the process.

After a leadoff single in the eighth, Matt Webb (3-0) took over and got a ground out before dealing a walk to Sonny Meade. Richard Jones flied out for the second out, but Chris McGuinness' base hit up the middle put the Bulldogs within a run. The Citadel added another run in the top of the ninth to tie the score at three, and Davidson couldn't answer.

The Bulldogs put together three straight one-out singles for a run in the top of the 10th, but this time, Davidson did have an answer, as pinch hitter Jay Honeycutt started the frame with a base hit into right.

Kayne offered a sacrifice but reached safely on a fielding error, and Drew Gadaire's bunt dropped in no-man's land as he took first safely as well to load the bases. Brady and Chase FitzPatrick struck out, to bring up General, who singled into center field. Pinch runner Chris FitzPatrick scored easily on the play, and Kayne slid under the tag at the plate to lift the 'Cats to the 5-4 win.

Davidson and The Citadel will play the final game of the series tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Wilson Field.
