DAVIDSON, N.C. — Freshman Liz Wall (Fort Washington, Pa.) netted the first two collegiate goals of her career to lead five Wildcats who scored two goals apiece as the Davidson women's lacrosse team earned a 13-10 home win over Suny Cortland on Thursday evening at Richardson Stadium.

Davidson, winners of four of its past five contests, improved to 5-2 on the season, while Cortland fell to 1-1.

Wall's two scores came at the 26:30 and 22:27 marks of the second half that gave the Wildcats at the time a comfortable 9-4 advantage, before the Red Dragons made things interesting in the late stages of the game.

Cortland cut the five-goal Wildcat lead down to one, 11-10, on a three-goal run, capped off by a Brianna Shost goal at the 5:48 mark of the second half.

The Red Dragons' Erin Kollar and Meghan Gallagher, who each hit the two-goal mark on the evening, hit back-to-back goals that brought the score to 11-9, forcing a Wildcat timeout. Coming out of the brief stop in play, Cortland forced a turnover and Shost proceeded to cap off the three-goal run with a score of her own.

Davidson regrouped and sealed the game with goals from senior Heather Frohman (Baltimore, Md.) and freshman Jenna Mugele (Baltimore, Md.) in the final four minutes of play, and goalkeeper Michelle Pav (Golden, Colo.) made a couple of big saves, including one on a free-position shot, in the closing minutes to earn the three-goal victory.

Wall was joined in the scoring column by juniors Haley Cook (Darien, Conn.) and Jen Crawford (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) as well as fellow freshmen Anna Smith (Newburyport, Mass.) and Mugele, all of whom combined to score 10 of the Wildcats' 13 goals.

Davidson had built a six-goal lead, 10-4, by scoring five times in the first 10 minutes of the second half, led by Wall's two scores. Cook picked up her third assist of the season on Wall's second goal as well as adding one of her own in the scoring spurt.

Callie Seymour (Denver, Colo.) added her fifth goal of the season during the run and Mugele started the scoring off in the second half with a strike at the 28:45 mark.

The first half saw both teams play to an even 2-2 tie through the first 10 minutes. After Cook started the evening off with a free-position goal, the Red Dragons' Lindsay Abbott netted two straight goals for a 2-1 Cortland advantage.

Then three minutes later at the 21:08 mark, Smith knotted things up with her eighth goal of the year and Jen Crawford followed with a go-ahead free-position goal. Davidson finished 6-of-8 on free-position shots in the game.

Davidson didn't stop there as senior Becky Horton (Walnut Creek, Calif.) pushed the Wildcat lead out to 4-2 with her 16th score of the season and Crawford capped off the four-goal run with another score for a 5-2 lead and 8:56 left in the half. The 'Cats would go into halftime up 5-3 after Mallory Palmieri netted the Red Dragons' third score of the period.

Pav earned her fifth win of the year for Davidson, tallying a game-high eight saves in all 60 minutes of action. Cortland's Amanda Galoia was credited with seven stops.

Davidson hits the road for the first time, traveling to take on Loyola (Md.) this Sunday, Mar. 15 at 12 p.m.
