Davidson Falls to The Citadel 22-16 in Home Finale

DAVIDSON, N.C. - In its final home match of the season, the Davidson wrestling team dropped a back-and-forth 22-16 Southern Conference match to The Citadel Sunday evening at Belk Arena.
Freshman David DeCamp kicked off the scoring for the Wildcats, taking a 6-2 decision in the opening match of the night. He was followed by Carl Sandercock's first pin of the season at 157. Sandercock dropped his opponent on a reversal with three seconds remaining in the first period, giving Davidson (5-12, 1-4 SoCon) an early 9-0 lead.
The Citadel (9-4-1, 3-1 SoCon) answered with a pin at 165 and a decision at 174 to pull even 9-9. Davidson senior Sam O'Hair, competing for the final time at Belk Arena, regained the lead for the Wildcats with a dominating 13-4 major decision at 184, his third consecutive victory this weekend.
An 11-1 victory at 197 for the Bulldogs tied the match once again, with Aaron Brown's close 3-1 decision over Charlie Wolff at 285 giving The Citadel a lead they would not relinquish.
Davidson would not go down without a fight, however. Finding themselves down by six points with a pair of matches remaining, sophomore Alex Radsky pulled out an 8-4 decision, cutting The Citadel lead to three. But the Wildcats could not pick up the final points, dropping the match at 141 for the final team score of 22-16.
Along with O'Hair, Sunday was the final home match for fellow seniors Scott Matthews, Kevin Cook and Chris Panfili, who combined for over 90 victories and 200 overall points earned during their careers.
The 'Cats will wrap up the regular season and tune up for the SoCon Championships when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. on Jan. 22 to take on Duquesne. The match is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the A.J. Palumbo Center.
