Wildcats Host VMI in Final Dual-Meet of the Season

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson Wildcat men's and women's swimming and diving teams will close out their dual-meet schedule by hosting the VMI Keydets, their final action of the season before the CCSA Championships, on Wed., Jan. 27 at 5 p.m. in Cannon Natatorium.
The VMI men's swimming and diving team arrives at Cannon with a 3-5 dual-meet record while the women's team is 1-13 after notching the program's first-ever win, a 52-51 victory over the New Jersey Institute of Technology. The Wildcat men are 2-6 overall in dual-meet competition (2-0 in the CCSA), and the women's team is 4-6 overall and 4-0 in the CCSA.
LAST TIME OUT
On Senior Day Saturday in Cannon Natatorium, the Davidson Wildcats swept the competition, picking up a pair of wins over the CCSA-foe Gardner-Webb Bulldogs behind strong performances from seniors Alanna Ream and Merritt Peele. The Wildcat women downed the Bulldogs, 162-126, and the Wildcat men posted a 168-111 victory.
Ream won the 200 fly with a time of 2:11.24 and also finished third in the 500 with a time of 5:13.24. Peele won the 1000 free (9:51.99) minutes before scoring with a third place in the 200 free (1:46.53). He also won the 500 free with a time of 4:48.47.
Other individual winners on the women's side included Jessica Delgehausen (the 1000 free, 10:23.44; 500 free, 5:06.28), Anna Stringfield (200 free, 1:54.05), Emily Castle (100 fly, 58.20) and Stephannie McKinney (1 and 3-meters). Scott Frantz, Curtis Chaney, Patrick Whitman, Geoff Peitz, Miller Williams and Ben Lane all won individual events for the men. Lane reset his college record on the 3-meter board with a zone-qualifying diving score of 342.75 points.

The Wildcats will head to Athens, Ga., for the 2009 CCSA Championships from Feb. 19-21. The Wildcat women, who won the inaugural championship last season, will look to defend their title while the Wildcat men hope to take the final step on the podium from their runner-up finish a season ago.
