
Wildcat Men Kick off Indoor Season at UNC Classic

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Led by Thad Sieracki's third-place finish in the mile run, the Davidson men's track & field team recorded five top tens at the season-opening UNC Classic on Saturday in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Sieracki ran a 4:21.95 in the finals for the first indoor podium finish of his career. Teammate Peter Bruton came in 12th place with a time of 4:28.71. Bruton also added an eighth-place finish in the 3,000-meters with a personal-best mark of 9:04.48.
In the 5,000-meter run, a trio of 'Cats recorded top-20 marks, led by Charlie Schmitt's time of 9:04.48, good for fifth place. He was joined by Blake Evitt, who came in 11th, covering the 5K in a time of 15:57.15. Freshman Ian Tupper recorded a 16th-place mark in his first career indoor meet, finishing in 16:14.38.
The Wildcats' successes were not limited to the track, as senior captin Will Funderburg came in eighth place in the shot put competition. Funderburg, who is the school record holder in the event, had a top throw of 13.65 meters to get him the top-ten finish.
Up next for the Wildcats will be a trip to Johnson City, Tenn. to compete in the Niswonger Invitational on the campus of East Tennessee State University. The two-day meet will take place on Jan. 30-31.
