Wildcats Return to Cannon, Host Bulldogs on Senior Day

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Wildcats return to Cannon Natatorium to finish their regular season with a pair of home meets, beginning with the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs on Saturday, Jan. 24. The team's nine seniors will be honored in pre-meet festivities.

LAST TIME OUT
Behind four pool records and a pair of wins from sophomore Jessica Delgehausen, the Wildcat women's swimming and diving team downed Georgia Southern, 123-118, in CCSA conference action Saturday afternoon at the RAC. Delgehausen set a pair of pool records with a pair of wins, finishing with a first-place time of 10:22.13 in the 1000 free and 5:03.64 in the 500 free. Her time in the 1000 free is an all-time fastest in dual-meet competition.

The Wildcats returned to action in the new calendar year, dropping a pair of results each at a tri-meet with the University of South Carolina at Duke Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils defeated the Wildcat women 160.5-120.5 and the men 151-118. The University of South Carolina downed the Wildcat women 150-121 and the men by a margin of 157-116.

WEEKLY HONORS
Senior team captain Merritt Peele and freshman Ben Lane were selected as the CCSA Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for meets competed Jan. 5-11, as announced by the league office.

Peele had a strong performance last weekend, swimming a time of 4:50.29 in the 500 free and finishing second with a 9:55.56 in the 1000-free against South Carolina (third against Duke).

Lane's score of 265.90 in the 3-meter event placed second against South Carolina and third against Duke. With a score of 223.25 in the 1-meter, Lane placed third against both teams.

NEXT TIME OUT
The Wildcats will take their final tune-up before the CCSA Championships against VMI at Cannon on Wed., Jan. 28 at 5 p.m.

They will then head to Athens, Ga., for the 2009 CCSA Championships from Feb. 19-21. The Wildcat women will defend their title, while the men's team will look to better their runner-up finish from a season ago.
