W. Tennis Scores 4-0 Win In Quarterfinals Match vs. Wofford

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Davidson women's tennis team started its quest for the program's first SoCon Tournament title with a 4-0 quarterfinal win over No. 6-seeded Wofford on Friday, Apr. 18 in Charleston, S.C.
The third-seeded Wildcats ran their overall record to 18-5 with the win, while Wofford closed out its season at 12-8.
Davidson opened the match by sweeping the doubles spots of No. 1 and 2 for a quick 1-0 lead. Picking up their team-leading 15th doubles victory was senior Kelsey Linville and sophomore Virginia Berry with an 8-4 win at No. 1.
From there, the Wildcats need just the three wins by its top three players to seal the 4-0 quarterfinal triumph. All-SoCon performers Linville (first team) and Berry (second team) each notched their 13th and 14th singles wins, respectively, with straight set victories at the No. 1 and 2 singles spots.
Junior Michele Fanney, who teamed up with sophomore Teresa Wang at No. 2 doubles for a victory, closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Sabrina Smyers of Wofford at No. 3. Fanney ran her singles mark to 13-8 overall and evened her record at No. 3 singles to 5-5 on the year.
Davidson will now play College of Charleston on Saturday, Apr. 19 at 3 p.m. in the semifinals.
