BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State halted Davidson's two-match win streak by sweeping the doubles point on its way to a 4-3 Southern Conference win in men's tennis action on Friday afternoon.
Davidson, coming off a 2-0 weekend, fell to 14-6 on the year and 5-3 in league matches. ASU ran its overall record to 11-9 and evened its SoCon record at 4-4.
All three doubles matches went down to the wire as they were only decided by a combined five games. The Wildcat teams of Ethan Jaffee and Flaviu Simihaian (No. 1 doubles), along with Phillip Compeau and Eric Noble (No. 2 doubles) each nearly pulled off wins at their respective positions, before falling 9-7.
Then the team of Sam Burns and Walker Lyons came back from a 6-2 deficit, but lost their momentum in the end as they fell 9-8.
From there, the Mountaineers took singles wins at No. 2, 3, 4 to finish off the 4-3 win.
Simihaian and Burns came back after their tough doubles losses to score straight-set wins at No. 1 and 5 for two of Davidson's three team points. The wins for both Wildcats were their 12th of the season in singles action.
Finally, Scott Myers halted his personal two-match losing streak by coming back from a 7-6 tie-breaker loss in capturing a 6-4 win in the second set before closing out the match with a 10-5 super tie-breaker win.
Davidson wraps up the regular season with a 2 p.m. match against the No. 69 Furman Paladins on Saturday, Apr. 12.
