DAVIDSON, N.C. — Wildcat senior women's tennis player Kim Whelan was tabbed as the Southern Conference Player of the Week for her outstanding play from February 19-26.
Whelan helped lead Davidson to its first conference win of the season, 7-0, over Chattanooga, Feb. 23. This is the first time that Whelan has received the honor in her four-year career at Davidson.
Whelan, a first-team all-conference in doubles play in 2006, recorded her sixth doubles victory of the season as she teamed with Lora Dushanova to shut out the Mocs 8-0 and secure the doubles point for the Wildcats. Whelan went on to record her team-best sixth singles win of the season with a two-set 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4.
Whelan has played at three different single spots for the Wildcats this season, compiling a 6-2 overall record. Whelan has also compiled a 6-1 doubles record this season.
Davidson hits the road for its next three matches, starting with an 11 a.m. match against Flagler College on Mar. 2 in St. Augustine, Fla.
