DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Wildcats close out the regular season with a noon tip-off against College of Charleston for Senior Day on Saturday at Belk Arena in women's basketball Southern Conference action.
Davidson is seeking to sweep the two-game season-series and earn its sixth two-game series sweep against a SoCon opponent. Earlier, the Wildcats took both contests against Wofford, UNC Greensboro, Elon, Georgia Southern and Appalachian State.
The All-Time Series
Davidson has dominated the all-time series as of late. The wildcats have won 12 straight and lead the series, 19-4, after a 66-51 win on Jan. 2 of this year.
Opening Tip
Davidson enters play 18-10 overall and is tied for third place in the SoCon with a 12-5 mark, while the Cougars come into Saturday's contest 13-14 overall and 9-8 in league play.
Both teams secured wins on Thursday evening with the Wildcats moving into a tie for third place with Georgia Southern after defeating the Eagles, 66-53. Mercedes Robinson chalked up her 13th double-double of the season, a SoCon-best, with a career-high 23 points and 10 rebounds. She was a personal-best 10-of-14 from the field. The win marked Davidson's 10th straight against GSU.
With a win on Saturday, the Wildcats will earn the No. 3 seed for the upcoming SoCon Tournament.
CofC earned a 72-63 road win at Appalachian State on Thursday. The Cougars were led by Jill Furstenburg's 18 points. The shooting guard paces the team with an 11.7 scoring average and had 10 points last time out against the Wildcats.
2007-08 Senior Highlights
Prior to the game, Davidson will honor its three seniors, Danielle Hemerka (Blackwood, N.J.), Honna Housley (Riceville, Tenn.) and Katie Hamilton (Lilburn, Ga.) for their outstanding four-year playing careers at Davidson.
Below are some highlights from this year:
Hamilton: A preseason all-conference pick this year... Forced to miss first the first 12 games due to knee problems... Second game back, registered seven points, five assists and four boards in just 10 minutes of action off the bench... Picked up first start of season in a 70-58 win over Wofford on Jan. 26, responding with a new season-high nine points, matching her season-best with a 3-for-4 shooting performance from the field in just eight minutes of action... In just seven minutes of action at Elon on Jan. 21, led the Wildcat bench with eight points on a season-best 3-of-4 shooting, including a 2-for-3 performance from long range... Rattled off a three-game stretch of 25 points in just 24 minutes of action - all in Wildcat wins.
Hemerka: Closed out month of January averaging over 10 points and shooting better than 50 percent... Registered second double-double of season with a season-high 11 rebounds (seven on offense) to go along with 12 points in a 67-66 win at Appalachian State on Feb. 9... Jan. 21 in front of family and friends on the road at Elon, became the 11th Wildcat in program history to score 1,000 points for a career when the senior recorded first double-double of the season (20 pts./10 rebs.) in a 50-40 Wildcat win... Closed out month of December scoring in double figures five of the seven games as she averaged 11.1 points and 4.9 rebounds, while pacing the team in three-pointers made (13) and assists (23)... At the Carolina First Classic, senior combined for 15 points and 16 rebounds in helping the Wildcats to wins over host UNC Asheville and Georgia State to take home the tournament title.
Housley: Scored nine of her 11 points in the first half at Western Carolina on Feb. 2, hitting all nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from downtown... Exploded for 13 first-half points on 5-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-7 from downtown, in leading the Wildcats to a 12-point win over Wofford on Jan. 26 at Belk Arena... Recorded a game for the record books on Jan. 12 when the senior sharp-shooter tied a school record with six three-pointers and scored a personal-best 18 points in leading the 'Cats to an 80-65 win over App. State... One of four players to score in double figures with a game-high 13 points, all coming in the second half, in leading Davidson to a 68-63 win over Winthrop. Scored seven of the 13 points in final 1:23 of game to seal the win for Wildcats... One of three 'Cats to hit for double figures in points, scoring 15 - seven of them during a game-clinching 17-5 run in the second half - in Davidson's 79-61 win over ESTU on Dec. 6.
