
Doubles Win the Difference In Davidson's 4-3 SoCon Win in M. Tennis

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Senior Phillip Compeau and sophomore Eric Noble helped the Wildcats open Southern Conference play with a 4-3 win over The Citadel with a 9-8 win in doubles action to help the Davidson men's tennis team earn the doubles point, which proved to be the key point in the victory on Saturday afternoon.
Davidson continued its early season hot streak, winning its fourth straight and sixth in the past seven matches to improve to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in SoCon action. The Citadel fell to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in league play.
Compeau and Noble teamed with the No. 3 team of Walker Lyons and Sam Burns to earned the doubles point for the Wildcats with Lyons and Burns taking home an 8-3 win. Compeau and Noble even their season record to 4-4, while the Wildcats' No. 3 team of Lyons and Burns improved to 5-2.
The singles play was split three matches apiece with Davidson capturing wins at No. 1, 2 and 6.
Junior Scott Myers ran off his seventh straight victory in taking a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 over Fredric Petrilli. Myers is 7-1 on the year and has not allowed more than two games in a set to his opponent in his last four matches.
After winning a tie breaker to open his match, junior Ethan Jaffee closed out his fourth singles win of the season with a 6-3 victory in the second set over Yufo Sutanio at No. 2.
Senior Flaviu Simihaian earned the final team point for Davidson when forced to his third three-set match of the season, he responded with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 triumph at No. 1 singles. Its the seniors second three-set win of the season.
Davidson remains on the road for a 5 p.m. match in Winston-Salem, N.C. against Wake Forest on Mar. 1. The Demon Deacons are currently ranked No. 17 nationally.
