
Wildcat Wrestlers Fall Just Short, 19-18, on Senior Night

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- In their final regular season match of the season, the Davidson wrestling team came up just short in finishing strong, dropping a 19-18 decision to Duquesne on Friday evening in Belk Arena on senior night. Davidson saw its two-match win streak come to a halt.
The Wildcats closed out the regular season at 3-12 in dual meets, while the Dukes moved their record to 7-8-1.
Before the match, Trebor Clavette (Fletcher, N.C.) was honored in his final home match of his career and finished it off with a win. With the Wildcats trailing 16-6 in the match, Clavette brought the Wildcats to with in seven at 16-9 when he scored a 7-4 win at 174 pounds. In a dual match that went back-and-forth, the senior earned a two-point take down to seal the win in the third session.
Clavette finished his senior regular-season out at 24-5 overall and 12-2 in dual matches. The 24 wins is a team-best
Sophomore Ben Altman (Wilmington, Del.) scored a 4-1 victory at 125 pounds and freshman Alex Radsky (Worthington, Ohio) came back from a 2-0 deficit to earn a 4-3 win at 133 pounds to give the Wildcats a quick 6-0 lead to open the match.
Altman, who was recently named Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for the second time this year, ran his record to 23-10 and 10-3 in dual meets.
Radsky scored his ninth win at 133 pounds to earn his second straight dual win to finish out the regular season.
Duquesne came back with a four-point major decision at 141 pounds when Kevin Chapman scored an 11-2 win over Vitaly Radsky (Worthington, Ohio) to cut the Wildcats lead to two at 6-4.
After the Dukes Brad Shrum won an overtime decision at 149 pounds, Cody Midlam pushed the Dukes' lead out to seven (13-6) with a pin at 157 pounds.
The Wildcats nearly earned the comeback, when trailing 19-9, scored wins in the last two weight classes, but fell just short.
Junior Sam O'Hair (Alexandria, Va.) jumped out a 9-0 lead in his match, before picking up a pin at the 4:51 mark for seven points to bring the 'Cats to within four at 19-15. The pin was O'Hair's fifth of the season.
Freshman #Charlie Wolff (Rochester, Minn.)# earned his ninth win of the season, fourth in dual matches, with a 1-0 decision over Joe D'Orsie for the final score of 19-18.
Davidson now hits the road for the Southern Conference Championships on March 8 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
