Wildcats Score 6-1 Win over Brown in M. Tennis

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men's tennis team kept their winning ways going with its third straight victory, and fifth straight at home, earning a 6-1 win over visiting Brown on Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats improved to 5-2 on the season, while Brown dropped to 4-3 on the year. Brown had recently been ranked 75th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association national poll, before dropping out a few weeks ago.
Like on Saturday, Davidson started the match up 1-0 by taking two of the three doubles matches. Senior Flaviu Simihaian (Nasaud, Romania) and junior Ethan Jaffee (Indianapolis, Ind.) ran their doubles winning streak to three straight with an 8-5 win over Saurabh Kohli at No. 1. The duo improved to 5-1 on the season.
The team of sophomore Sam Burns (Banner Elk, N.C.) and Walker Lyons (Wallingford, Pa.) improved to 4-2 with an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles to help capture the doubles point.
Those two then teamed up with Simihaian, sophomore Eric Noble (Fayetteville, N.C.) and junior Scott Myers (West Palm Beach, Fla.) to earn singles wins at No. 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 for the the 6-1 win.
Lyons and Noble both prevailed in three-setters, coming back after each dropped their first sets. Lyons took a 5-7, 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 4 over Kendrick Au to run his singles mark to 5-2 in his first year.
Noble, who gave up just two games in a win over his opponent from Presbyterian on Saturday, battled through a three-setter against Sam Garland for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3.
Myers continued to have the hot-hand in singles play as he ran his overall record 6-1 with his sixth straight win in a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Charlie Posner at No. 6 singles.
Davidson hits the road for its next five consecutive matches, starting with a trip to Charleston, S.C. to open up Southern Conference play against The Citadel on Feb. 23 at 2 p.m.
