
Curry Named AP Preseason All-America

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson junior guard Stephen Curry was named to the five-man Associated Press preseason All-America team Monday.
Curry earned 66 votes out of 72, second to North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough, who was a unanimous selection. Notre Dame's Luke Harangody (58 votes), UCLA's Darren Collison (46 votes) and Okalahoma's Blake Griffin (45 votes) are the other members of the team.
A 2008 AP second-team All-America selection, Curry finished fourth in the country in scoring, averaging 25.9 points a contest, a season ago. He set an NCAA record with 162 3-pointers and shot 43.9 percent from long distance while leading the Wildcats to the Midwest Regional final, where he was named the regional's Most Outstanding Player.
He scored 30 or more points in 11 contests, 40 or more points twice, 20 or more in 27 games and shot 48 percent from the floor.
Curry has also been named preseason All-America by The Sporting News, Athlon Sports, Blue Ribbon Basketball and CollegeHoops.net. He was selected the Preseason Southern Conference Player of the Year in the league's coaches poll.
The Wildcats return 11 lettermen, including four of its top six scorers, and three starters from last year's team.
Davidson hosts Lenoir-Rhyne in an exhibition game Tuesday, Nov. 11, before opening the season against Guilford Friday, Nov. 14. Both those contests are in John M. Belk Arena.
