'Cats Drop 28-10 SoCon Decision at VMI

LEXINGTON, Va. - Sophomore Carl Sandercock, senior Trebor Clavette and junior Sam O'Hair posted individual victories for the Davidson wrestling team, but the Wildcats dropped a 28-10 decision at SoCon opponent VMI Friday night.
Trailing 9-0, The Wildcats got on the scoreboard at 149, when Sandercock held on for a 4-2 victory, despite a series of takedown attempts late in the third period by John Held. It was Sandercock's seventh win of the season and improved his record in the weight class to 4-2.
VMI won the next three matches to take a commanding 22-3 lead. Davidson posted back-to-back wins at 184 and 197, with two Wildcats wrestling out of their normal weight class. Clavette held off a Curtis Moore 4-2 at 184 before O'Hair posted an 8-0 major decision against Ronnie Ellsworth at 197.
Davidson returns to action in a tri-meet tomorrow at Liberty. The Wildcats will wrestle against the Flames at 10 a.m. before facing Messiah later in the afternoon.
