Davidson Splits Pair of Dual Meets in NYC

NEW YORK – The Davidson wrestling team split a pair of dual meets in New York City Friday, topping Princeton 35-15 and falling 28-14 to Duke. The Wildcats moved their record to 1-2.

Trebor Clavette led the way for the 'Cats, winning both his matches at 174. The senior scored a 19-4 technical fall over Aaron Glover of Duke and posted a 17-7 major decision over Travis Erdman of Princeton.

Sam O'Hair defeated Duke's Robert Holbrook 1-0 at 197, the first match this season the junior has wrestled at that weight class. He also earned six points in a forfeit victory at 184 against Princeton.

Sophomore Carl Sandercock posted an 8-5 victory at 149 over Mike Bell of Duke and earned a forfeit win against Princeton. Freshman Vitaly Radsky picked up a 3-1 victory at 125 against Kellan McKeon of Duke in his only action, while twin brother Alex split a pair of matches. He wrestled at 141 against Duke and lost but pinned Robert Benitez of Princeton at 133, his usual weight class.

Sophomore Ben Altman also split two matches, earning a 6-5 victory at 125 against Princeton but falling at 133 against the Blue Devils. Freshman Joe McGinley also went 1-1 on the weekend, topping Princeton's Aaron Casp 9-6 at 157 and dropping a 14-3 major decision against Duke.

Davidson returns to action Tuesday, Jan. 15, as the Wildcats host Gardner-Webb at 7 p.m. in Belk Arena.
