DAVIDSON, N.C. — Riding a four-game home winning streak, the Davidson women's basketball team plays host to East Tennessee State on Thursday in search of its fifth win of the 2007-08 campaign at John M. Belk Arena.
The Opening Tip
Davidson (4-2), who is wrapping up a three-game homestand, will be seeking its third straight in the all-time series vs. ETSU (3-3) on Thursday at 7 p.m.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
The series is 14-11 in favor of the Wildcats with them having won the last two meetings. Last year after not playing ESTU in the 2005-06 season, Davidson traveled to Johnson City, Tenn. and took a 82-68 win on Nov. 17.
From the Bench, Head Coach Annette Watts
On her becoming the program's all-time winningest coach–
"As far as becoming the all-time winningest coach is concerned, I have had so much help! Coach John Filar had laid the plans, Jim Murphy, Bobby Vagt and Tom Ross added the support. I simply do what I love to do. Our Wildcat Women's Team has certainly made the journey a fun one."

The Wildcats matchup vs. ETSU–
"East Tennessee State is a very athletic team. They attack the basket and rebound hard. Our team will need to play solid fundamental basketball and take advantage of every opportunity we are given."
Scouting the Wildcats
The Wildcats, who are wrapping up a three-game homestand, recently picked up a non-conference win over Winthrop on Dec. 2 by the score of 68-63. It was their second straight win on the homestand after defeating Georgia Southern (62-56) on Nov. 29.
Against Winthrop, senior Honna Housley scored seven of her 13 points in the final 1:23 and head coach Annette Watts won her 103rd career game as she passed John Filar (102) to improve to 103-79 in her seven years at Davidson.
The win also moved Watts' record against Winthrop to a perfect 4-0 and marked the eighth straight win overall in the all-time series for Davidson.
Housley led four scorers in double figures for the Wildcats, the first time this season they have accomplished the feat. Junior Mercedes Robinson posted 11 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore Julia Paquette scored 10 points. Fellow sophomore Alex Thompson finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
Beside a four-game home win streak, Davidson will also have its perfect month of December the past two years tested on Thursday. The Wildcats have currently won their last eight straight December contests dating back to last year's perfect 6-0 mark.
Last year vs. ETSU, Davidson picked up an 82-68 road win behind senior Katie Hamilton's 20 points. The Wildcats would open up a 34-32 halftime lead by scoring 48 second half points, led by Hamilton's 13 points.
Davidson has done a good job recently of cutting its turnovers down after a season-high 31 at Georgia Tech. The Wildcats committed just 15 in its last game vs. Winthrop.
Scouting the Buccaneers
Winners of its last two contests, East Tennessee State enters Thursday's game at 3-3 with its most recent win coming on Dec. 1 over UNC Asheville, 72-53. The Buccaneers blocked a school-record 13 shots led by Latisha Belcher's five, and placed three players in double figures in the scorer's book.
Pacing the Lady Buc attack was Siarre Evans with game highs of 13 points and eight rebounds to go along with five assists and two steals. It marked the fourth time Evans has led the team in scoring and is pouring in 14.5 points per game on the season. In addition, 22 of her team-high 58 rebounds have come on the offensive side as she is averaging 9.7 rebounds per game.
The Buccaneers return nine of their 12 letterwinners from a season ago and four of the five starters. ETSU finished 20-12 last year and advanced to the Women's NIT. There the Bucs lost to Western Kentucky in the first round, 90-73.
The leading scorer from last season, Michele DeVault, again is pacing the ETSU offense with a 15.7 points per game average. The senior has started all six games this year and is also averaging nearly six boards a contest. Last year against the Wildcats, DeVault scored a game-high 21 points, dropping in 12 of those points from behind the three-point line, while hauling in seven rebounds.
Evans also had a big game against Davidson, finishing with 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds. She added five assists and six steals.
Prior to its win over UNCA, the Bucs defeated Evansville, 77-74, behind DeVault's 25 points.
ETSU has yet to win on the road after dropping away contests at Western Kentucky and Samford in the preseason WNIT.
Up Next
Davidson travels to nationally ranked Georgia on Sunday, Dec. 9 for a 2:30 p.m. contest. The Bulldogs are currently ranked 7/8 in the AP and USA Today/ESPN Polls.
