GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro ended Davidson's season with a 1-0 victory in the opening round of the 2007 Southern Conference Men's Soccer Tournament Saturday evening at UNCG Soccer Stadium.

The Wildcats conclude the campaign 4-14-1 overall, while the third-seeded Spartans advance to next weekend's semifinals with a 10-7-2 mark.

Thomas Campbell, who recorded a hat trick in UNCG's 4-2 triumph over Davidson last month, scored the game's lone goal in the 24th minute on a blast from 20 yards out off a quick start following a Wildcat foul.

"The key moment in the game was Campbell's shot. He has scored the big goals for UNCG this season," said Davidson head coach Matt Spear.

Despite recording just one score, UNC Greensboro controlled the shot column 18-8. Robby Goldsberry finished with a game-high five saves for Davidson, while the Spartans' Chad Janda turned away four en route to his third shutout of the season.

"Since we were playing on the road and were the lower seed, we expected that UNCG would have good possession and solid chances to score. But we held them back, and created enough chances of our own to pull the upset."

Both clubs finished with four corner kicks on the evening.

UNC Greensboro will host the semifinals and championship match of the 2007 Southern Conference Men's Soccer Tournament Nov. 16 and 18.

"The coaches and team are thinking a lot about our five Seniors. They have given a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to the program and we hope they feel positive about their college soccer contributions and experiences."
