GREENSBORO, NC– The UNC Greensboro Spartans downed the Davidson Wildcat volleyball team, 3-0 (30-17, 30-24, 30-16), in a Southern Conference matchup on Sunday afternoon in Fleming Gym.
Greensboro snaps a two-game losing streak and improves to 12-10 overall and 5-3 in league play, while Davidson falls to 6-14 and 1-6 in the SoCon.
Freshman outside hitter Sarabeth Peele paced the 'Cats with 10 kills. For the Spartans, Kaitlyn Nortz (15 kills) and Emily Lindborg (10 kills) reached double digits.
The two teams battled back and forth to open the first game, until with the score knotted at 10, UNCG put together an eight-point serve to take an 18-10 lead and held for the 30-17 win.
Davidson kept pace with the Spartans in game two and was never more than a few points off the lead, but a late run lifted Greensboro to a 30-24 win. The Wildcats used back-to-back kills from freshman setter Hayley Lawson and Peele to take a 24-23 lead, but a 7-1 UNCG run to close out the game put the Spartans ahead 2-0 in the match.
Despite multiple kills from junior middle blocker Kittery Neale and senior outside hitter Katie Pierucci in the final game, the Spartans defeated the Wildcats 3-0 with a 30-16 win.
Davidson returns to Belk Arena for a 5:30 p.m. match against SoCon-foe Appalachian State on Thurs., Oct. 11. The match will be immediately followed by "A night with the 'Cats," the season-kickoff event for men's and women's basketball.
