
Wildcats Snap Four-Match Winning Streak with 3-0 Loss at Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Davidson Wildcat volleyball team snapped a four-match winning streak with a 3-0 (30-11, 30-20, 30-21) loss to the College of Charleston Cougars on Sunday afternoon in Charleston.
The loss drops the 'Cats to 10-17 overall and 5-9 in the SoCon, while Charleston improves to 18-7 overall and 12-2 in the league.
Freshman outside hitter Sarabeth Peele and junior middle blocker Kittery Neale each had eight kills to lead the 'Cats, while Charleston got 12 each from Annie Uthe and Deanna Patrick.
Charleston hit .500 in the first game of the match and used 16 kills and 27 blocks for the 30-11 win. The Cougars opened the game with an 8-3 run and continued to extend the lead throughout the game.
The 'Cats regrouped and kept pace with the Cougars until halfway through the second game. The two teams traded points for the first seven possessions, until with the score knotted at 13, the Cougars won the next two points to take a slight lead. A kill from freshman Anna Bradbury kept the game within reach, 16-15, but Charleston began to pull away and went on an 11-3 run to close the game for the 30-20 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Bradbury served a couple of points to open the third game, but Charleston answered with a 6-0 run to reclaim the lead. Davidson used a 4-1 run behind the serving of seniors Lindsey Woeste and Katie Pierucci to stay close, 10-9, but a five-point serve forced the 'Cats into a timeout, trailing 15-9. With the Cougars starting to pull away, the 'Cats put together a 4-0 run to shrink the Cougars lead, 27-18. A kill from Neale helped the 'Cats survive a match point, but Charleston won the next opportunity for a 30-21 win for the match.
Davidson returns to action, hosting Elon and UNC Greensboro at Belk Arena next weekend. The 'Cats face the Phoenix on Sat., Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. and the Spartans at 2 p.m. the following afternoon.
