DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Freshman Lindsey Martin bettered her own school record in the 50 free with another win in the event to remain undefeated, as the Wildcat women defeated Wingate 129-86 in a dual meet on Saturday. The Wildcat men fell by a score of 129-89.
Martin won the 50 free in a time of 23.75, improving upon her previous record of 23.93. She also won the title in the 100 back with a time of 1:00.00.
"Our women finished up a fun weekend," head coach John Young said. "In some different events today, they continued to get after races, and I love the way they are supporting each other."
Freshman Anna Stringfield won the 1000 free and set a pool record with a time of 10:35.20 for the Wildcat women, while junior Merritt Peele did the same on the men's side, finishing the 1000 first in a meet record of 9:51.33.
Freshman Jessica Delgehausen finished first and set a pool record in the 200 free with a time of 1:59.94 and also placed first in the 100 free with a time of 55.05, and freshman Emily Castle was first in the 100 fly with a time of 59.77.
Freshman Casey Gemunder won the 500 free in a time of 5:17.66, while junior Stephannie McKinney won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 187.82.
On the men's side, junior Scott Frantz won the 100 back with a pool-record time of 52.60.
"Our men swam well today," Young said. "But our size continues to make scoring challenging. Some of our men, really attacked their races in an attempt to position for a win for the team. If we embrace that type of aggressiveness, we'll be on the right track."
The Wildcats swept the 200 medley relays, as freshmen McKensie Carr, Alexa Richardson, Emily Castle and Martin combined for a first-place time of 1:51.13, while Frantz, senior Fiete Stegger, sophomore Miller Williams and freshman Tennant Brastow placed first with a time of 1:37.24.
The Wildcats will return to action in a CCSA dual-meet at the College of Charleston on Nov. 3 at 2 p.m.
