ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Wildcat men's and women's swimming and diving teams combined for nine event titles, and freshman Lindsey Martin broke a pair of school records, but Emory downed both teams in a dual meet in Atlanta on Saturday afternoon.

The women dropped a narrow 127-116 decision, while the men fell 124-92. Both teams fall to 0-2 in dual meet action with the season just underway.

Martin, who set the record last weekend in her first collegiate action against ECU, continued her assault on the record book, taking the 50 free title with a new school record of 23.93. She also bested the Davidson record in the 100 free, with a runner-up time of 52.17. The 100 free record was previously held by 2005-06 CAA Swimmer of the Year Megan Hollar with a time of 52.89 from Feb. 22, 2006.

Junior Alanna Ream won the 1000 free with a time of 10:34.77, while sophomore Kelsey Chisholm won both the 1- and 3-meter diving events. Freshman Ineke Stegger took first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.25, and fellow classmate Anna Stringfield won the 200 back with a time of 2:07.24 and was barely outtouched in the 200 free with a personal-best time of 1:54.90 and a Davidson top-five time for a second straight week.

"Our women's team made a great run at upsetting one of the top teams in D3 national competition," head coach John Young said. "An 11-point loss to a team of Emory's caliber marks a good bit of progress for our squad, but we'd rather be talking about a win."

On the men's side, senior Fiete Stegger touched the wall first in the 100 free with a time of 48.59, while junior Scott Frantz won the 200 back in a time of 1:56.48. Junior Andrew Carlson swam a season-high in the 200 free with a time of 1:45.92 and was narrowly outtouched.

"Today our men ran into a deep and motivated Emory team," Young said. "Though I'd have liked for a few more races to have gone our way, we raced hard and identified some race components that can use some cleaning up."

The Wildcats swept the 400 freestyle relays, as freshman Alexa Richardson (56.73), freshman Jessica Delgehausen (54.13), Stringfield (54.24), and Martin (51.41) combined for the women, and junior Merritt Peele (47.72), freshman Tennant Brastow (48.98), Carlson (48.38) and Stegger (47.62) did the same for the men.

"Our freshmen continue to impress, not just in performance, but also in competitive poise," Young said. "Lindsey took another step forward today. Anytime one swimmer breaks two records in one meet, the conference competition should take notice."

The Wildcats will return to action next weekend, as they host Georgia Southern at 6 p.m. on Fri., Oct. 26 at Cannon Natatorium.
