Tim Cowie became the Wildcats' head volleyball coach in 2002.
Over his tenure at Davidson, he has coached four all-conference players: Jenna Dykstra and Liz Williamson were named to the second team in 2006, while Williamson also made the second team in 2005. Roberta Quis was named to the first team in 2002, and Latisha Chapman took second team honors. Chapman was named to the first team the following season when she set new single-season records for kills and earned Davidson’s prestigious Stimson Award, given annually to the outstanding female athlete of the year.
In 2000, he led the Division III Violets to a 22-12 record, a first-place finish at the Scranton Invitational, a second-place finish at the SUNY-Oneonta Red Dragon Invitational and a third-place finish at the University Athletic Association Championships. Cowie and his assistants Christa Rosa and Stacey Moline were named the UAA Co-Coaching Staff of the Year.
The Violets finished 17-14 overall in Cowie's second season at NYU, with wins over NCAA Division II Pace University, UAA rivals Brandeis, Rochester, Chicago, Case Western, and then-No.1-ranked Washington University.
At New York, he recruited all-americans, all-region players, an NCAA All-Region Freshman of the Year and UAA All-Conference players.
Cowie joined NYU after four seasons as head coach of the nationally-recognized women's volleyball team at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
At RIT, Cowie led the Tigers to a 125-43 overall record. His teams earned four consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament bids and advanced to the second round in each of his four years.
Cowie begin coaching in 1995, leading the men's volleyball club team at the University of Rochester to a successful 14-3 record.
In addition to his responsibilities at Davidson, Cowie has served on the NCAA Volleyball Rules Committee. He has also been a voter on the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Coaches Poll and All-America Committee.
A native of Oshawa, Ontario, Cowie and his wife Gwen reside in Davidson with their three children — Emmily (12), Tim Jr. (10) and Ryan (8).

Personal
A 1988 graduate of Roberts Wesleyan College with a degree in business administration, Cowie served his alma mater as an assistant women's volleyball coach from 1985-88 and the assistant men's basketball coach from 1989-1994. He returned to women's volleyball during the 1995-96 season.In addition to his responsibilities at Davidson, Cowie has served on the NCAA Volleyball Rules Committee.
