2021-22 (Senior): Competed in a variety of events, including the 100 fly, 200 IM and the 100 and 200 back.
2020-21 (Junior): Competed in the 100 and 200 back and the 100 fly.
2019-20 (Sophomore): Placed 14th in the A-10 in the 200 back (1:49.34) • Also competed in the 100 fly, 100 free and 100 back at A-10s • Took fifth in the 200 back at the Bucknell Invitational (1:50.08) • Also reached the Bucknell Invitational finals in the 100 back, 100 fly and 200 IM.
2018-19 (Freshman): Joined the program’s all-time top 10 list in the 200 backstroke • Posted a time of 1:50.71 at the A-10 championships to reach the B finals and move to ninth on the Davidson list • Reached the C finals in three events at the Bucknell Invitational in November • Touched the wall first in the C finals of the 200 back and 200 butterfly and also competed in the 100 fly.
Before Davidson: Starred at East Chapel Hill High, where he earned most outstanding swimmer honors in 2017 and 2018 • Named to all-conference team all four seasons • Part of East Chapel Hill's 200 medley relay that placed second at the 2018 N.C. High School Athletic Association 3A championships • Helped the Wildcats place third overall in the 2018 state meet • Also swam for the Chapel Hill YMCA and Carolina Aquatic Club.
Personal: Son of Nelson and Norma Chao • Born Jan. 15, 2000 • Has two siblings: Colin and Christina • Christina swam at Vanderbilt • Plans to major in environmental studies and educational studies.
