DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson Men's Cross Country and Track & Field Coach Andrew Allden was named to the USATF Level 1 Coaches Education Executive Committee in December 2025.
"I have been involved in USATF Coaches Education since 1998," said Coach Allden. "Being named to the executive committee has been a big professional goal for me over the past couple of years."
As the Director of Coaching Schools, Allden is involved in the decision making for how coaching education operates moving forward. Allden also cowrote the endurance portion of the USATF Coaching Education Level 1 textbook along with Dr. Joe Vigil. Vigil coached the men's program at Adams State from 1965-1993 and won the 1992 NCAA Division II National Cross Country Championship.
"I never had a conversation with Coach Vigil that didn't make me feel better about myself," said Coach Allden. "He's been a role model and I thoroughly enjoyed working with him on the textbook."
Coach Allden also credits Scott Christensen and Dave Pavlansky for helping shape his coaching career. Christensen won 13 state titles as a head coach at Stillwater High School in Minnesota in 2024 was named the NHSACA National Coach of the Year for boys' track & field. Pavlansky was the head coach of boys' track and cross country at Boardman High School from 1999-2011.
"Throughout my coaching journey, I've learned that it's about relationships," said Coach Allden. "I believe, although you are coaching a team, you have to coach individuals. Everyone is an experiment of one."
