In their Atlantic-10 opener, the Davidson College men's soccer team played defending regular season champions, George Mason, to a 1-1 draw Friday night in Fairfax, Va.
The Wildcats took an early lead in the 14th minute of the contest, scoring on long distance throw from Jack Brown that found the head of Brady McGlone in the box, deflecting the ball to Ayman Maadir, who headed the ball into the net.
Maadir's second goal of the season held strong for the next 68 minutes of play as the Davidson defense faced 19 shots and eight corner kicks from the Patriot attack.
The 'Cats had their own offensive chances, putting up 13 shots and earning a 76th minute penalty kick that was saved by the Patriot keeper, Jaume Salvado.
George Mason found the equalizer in the 82nd minute, a header from Nacho Diaz Barragan.
Lucas Beltran made six saves for the Wildcats while Salvado made four for the Patriots. George Mason registered seven shots on target to Davidson's five.
