'Cats Fall in Double Overtime to Hawks
3/8/2025 4:58:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse
PHILADELPHIA – The Davidson women's lacrosse team fell 9-8 to Saint Joseph's in a double overtime heart breaker Saturday afternoon.
It's the third straight match up between the 'Cats and Hawks that came down to a one-goal decision, and the second double overtime meeting in the last three years.
Davidson held an 8-7 lead through the final nine minutes of regulation, thanks to a free position goal from Devyn Martinez, but the Hawks' Maddie Yoder found the back of the net with five seconds remaining to force the extra period.
Despite a scoreless first overtime, Saint Joe's eventually netted the game-winner with 3:07 left on the clock.
The Wildcats carried a 7-4 lead into halftime, after peppering the Hawks with a six-goal second quarter. The 'Cats saw production from Martinez, Jenna Skibbe, Josie Lambert, Allie Hartnett and Adrienne Leone over that stretch, but would not score again for over 20 minutes until Martinez's free position shot in the fourth.
