Hoyt’s Career Day Not Enough as ‘Cats Drop PFL Opener, 35-32

The setback drops the 'Cats to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in PFL action, while the Hatters improve to 2-4 and 1-1.
Stetson, which had a pair of 100-yard rushers, finished the day with 384 yards on the ground, averaging 8.0 yards per carry.
Chris Stephenson (135) and Cayden Betts (124) combined for 259 of the Hatters' rushing yards.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Wildcats retook the lead following another forced turnover, this time a pass breakup by Christian Lyons that ended up in the hands of Hunter Brooks.
On the ensuing possession, Coulter Cleland connected with Hoyt for 59 yards to give Davidson a 24-21 advantage with 9:09 to play.
Stetson responded with 14 unanswered points late in the fourth to all but put the game out of reach.
Hoyt, who had eight grabs and 103 yards after the catch on the afternoon, added a 58-yard touchdown grab with 39 seconds to play, giving him a league-best seven on the season.
In a first half that featured six lead changes, Stetson rushed for 174 yards while carrying a 21-17 lead into the break.
Capping the game's opening drive with a 38-yard Christos Tzoumakas field goal, Davidson later went back in front with a 1-yard run from Mason Sheron and a 13-yard touchdown reception from Hoyt.
Robert Lamar's second interception against the Hatters in as many years set up Sheron's score.
Tre Johnson and Hudson Altenburg led a Davidson defense that forced three turnovers with 11 tackles each.

The Wildcats return home next Saturday for a week six matchup against league foe St. Thomas at 1 p.m. on Field 76 inside Davidson College Stadium.
