FAIRFAX, Va. – In the final event of the night, Davidson's Frances Whitworth put together a dominant performance in the 10,000 meters, as the senior won by nearly 22 seconds to highlight day one of competition for the 'Cats at the 2024 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by George Mason.

A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., Whitworth started to pull away from the 25-competitor field at the 7600m split, before finishing in 35:19.90 to become the fourth Wildcat since 2015 to take the league title in the event.

Classmate Megan Burkholder also earned a spot on the podium matching her own school record in the pole vault to take home the silver medal.

For the second straight year, Burkholder and Megan Frazee of Massachusetts were the last two competitors standing, this time following successful jumps at 3.90m. After both were unable to clear 4.00m on their three attempts, Frazee cleared the height on her fourth to repeat as conference champion.

Burkholder, the most decorated pole vaulter in program history, concludes her A-10 Championship career with two silvers and a pair of bronze medals.

Freshman Grace Zagoria also scored in the event for the Wildcats, finishing fourth with a new personal best of 3.65m.

Molly Sullivan, who set the program standard earlier this spring in the 3000m Steeple, added to Davidson's team total with a sixth-place finish, posting a time of 10:56.06.

In the 400 meters, senior Sophia Hood grabbed the last qualifying spot for tomorrow's final with a time of 56.80.

With three events remaining in the heptathlon, Davidson's Riley Dodd (2,807 pts) and Hannah Casey (2,724) sit third and sixth, respectively.

As a team, the Wildcats conclude the opening day of competition in fourth place with 25.5 team points.
