ORLANDO, Fla. – Highlighted by three sub-par rounds, including a three-under 69 from Will Davis, Davidson sits tied for second after the opening round of the 2024 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championships.
The three-day / 54-hole event is being played on the Par 72, 7,068-yard Cypress Course layout at Evermore Resort.
Saturday's second round will begin at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring will be available each day at GolfStat.com.
Davis, who led for much of the day and got to five-under before a double bogey on the last, is one back of individual leader, VCU's Ugo Malcor (-4).
Alex Heffner, two-time A-10 Player of the Year, played his last six holes in five-under to sign for a two-under 70, which puts him in a tie for fifth.
Like Heffner, Joshua Stewart (-1) played well down the stretch and will enter day two tied for seventh out of 60 competitors following a 71.
Despite a slow start, the Wildcats played the back nine in four-under as a team to finish with an even-par round of 288. Davidson and Dayton share second place on the 12-team leaderboard, 11 back of preseason favorite VCU. George Washington (+2) and George Mason (+7) round out the Top-5.
In addition to winning the last three A-10 crowns, the Wildcats entered with nine Top-5 showings in 10 events this season, highlighted by wins at the Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate and Sea Palms Invitational.
In eight Atlantic 10 Championship appearances, Davidson has captured four titles (2018, 2021, 2022, 2023), a runner-up and a third-place showing, while recording an average finish of 2.9.
