ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Davidson won its second tournament this week as the Wildcats successfully defended at Sea Palms by capturing The Peoples Championship with a 36-hole total of 21-under par.
Scheduled for 54 holes, the annual event was shortened due to heavy rain in the area midway through Saturday's final round. The tournament featured 22 teams / 128 competitors and was played on the Par 71, 6,664-yard Sea Palms Resort layout.
In addition to their second straight win, it's the Wildcats' eighth victory since the 2021 spring season.
"I'm extremely proud of the guys," said head coach Tim Straub. "For them to win two team titles and go 35-0 over Spring Break is a remarkable accomplishment. It's unfortunate the tournament was shortened due to severe weather with Will and Josh battling for individual medalist."
Will Davis had a one-shot advantage over his teammate Joshua Stewart when play was suspended on the back nine. Instead, the Wildcat duo finish tied for second, one back of Wright State's Shane Ochs, who claimed the individual title at 9-under 133.
Stewart (66-68) and Davis (69-65), who were both in contention a year ago before placing tied for third, finished at 8-under 134.
Davidson, which captured the Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate earlier this week, won by 13 shots over runner-up Drexel (-8). Xavier (E), Wright State (+1), Western Carolina (+2) and Belmont (+2) rounded out the top-5 in the team standings.
Alex Heffner (67-70 = 137) also finished inside the Top-5 for the Wildcats as the two-time A-10 Player of the Year came home tied for fourth just four swings behind.
Price Miller (+4 | T-46) and Benjamin Newfield (72 | WD) were also in the Wildcat starting lineup, while Davis Sayman (+3), Adam Lauer (+5), Will Tharin (+13) and Jackson Bode (+17) competed as individuals.
