Wildcats Fall to #24 Spiders

RICHMOND, Va. -- A 7-1 start from the Spiders proved to be too much for the Davidson lacrosse team to overcome, as the Wildcats fell 15-7 to No. 24 Richmond on Saturday afternoon.
The result moves the 'Cats to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Spiders improve to 6-2 and 2-0.
Brooke Ross notched Davidson's first goal of the day at the 8:31-mark of the first quarter to make it a 2-1 game, but Richmond capped off a five-goal tear to build its defining lead by the end of the frame.
The 'Cats outscored the Spiders 3-1 in the second, thanks to scores from Riley Moore and Julianne Carey, and were able to pull back within four, 8-4, by the end of the first half.
Davidson came within as many as three goals, 9-6, after Lauren Garcia and Ross opened up the third quarter with back-to-back goals, but Richmond closed out the game on a 6-1 scoring run to secure the A-10 victory.
Paige Doyle made six saves in 45 minutes of relief, while Allie Hartnett won six draw controls.

The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, March 20 to take on VCU at 6:30 p.m. from inside Davidson College Stadium.
