‘Cats Split Weekend with Loss at Western Carolina

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Davidson women's tennis sophomore Olivia Hooper earned the Wildcats' lone singles victory Sunday afternoon, as the 'Cats fell 6-1 at Western Carolina.
"The team should hold their heads high," said head coach Susanne Depka. "Western is a solid team they were strong all the way down the lineup. Today WCU was just better than us. Even against a good opponent we fought hard and worked on areas of our game to make us uncomfortable. We could have just given in and remained comfortable, and the individual matches would not have been as close as they were. As long as we are getting better and improving, we are succeeding."
Hooper, who had her debut in Cullowhee Sunday, earned her first career singles win after fighting back in the No. 6 position to a 4-6, 6-3 (10) victory.
Despite losing the doubles point, the pairing of Savanna Kollock and Bryson Langford capped off a 2-0 weekend together with a 6-2 win.
Davidson will jump back into action with another road match, this time against VCU 10 a.m. Feb. 10.
