Baseball Welcomes Penn State for Weekend Series

Davidson's sequence of weekend homestands continues Friday when Penn State visits Wilson Field to begin a four-game set.
This is the third home series for the Wildcats, who are playing their first four at home. That included matchups with Morehead State (Feb. 16-18) and Villanova (Feb. 23-25) and will also include a weekend set with Brown (March 8-10).
The Wildcats' first road weekend series will be March 16-17 at Tennessee Tech.
LATEST ON THE 'CATS
• Davidson is 3-5 after a 17-0 loss at Duke on Tuesday.
• Infielder Michael O'Shaughnessy has been the offensive leader to-date, hitting a team-best .429 with a 1.243 OPS. He has hit two home runs and leads the Wildcats with 12 RBIs.
• O'Shaughnessy leads the Atlantic 10 with a .529 on-base percentage and ranks second in average and RBIs.
• Infielder Eli Putnam is batting .385 with a 1.169 OPS, two home runs and six RBIs.
• O'Shaughnessy and Putnam are 5-6 in the A-10 in OPS.
• Jed Howard, in the lineup as designated hitter, hit .636 (7-for-11) last weekend against Villanova and earned A-10 Rookie of the Week honors on Monday. Howard made his debut last Friday and finished that game 4-for-4 with four RBIs.
• Lefties Cooper Cavanaugh and Matt Weber have set the tone on the mound.
• Cavanaugh, the team's Saturday starter, has a 2.89 ERA in 9.1 innings, while Weber has a 1.17 ERA in 7.2 relief innings.
SCOUTING THE NITTANY LIONS
• Penn State enters 5-2 after most recently winning two of three games at Stanford.
• The Nittany Lions opened the season by winning three of four games at a multi-team event at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary. That included two wins over Army and one against Monmouth.
• JT Marr is hitting a team-best .455, while Adam Cecere is hitting .412.
• Catcher Matt Maloney was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Feb. 19 after driving in 11 runs on the opening weekend.
• Mike Gambino is in his first season as Penn State's head coach. He previously coached for 13 years at Boston College, his alma mater.
