HAMPTON, Va. — Dylan Felt shattered an Atlantic 10 record, diver Annica Valmassei captured a silver medal and two more program marks fell on Thursday to highlight Davidson's second day at the A-10 Swimming and Diving Championships.
Felt, last year's A-10 Most Outstanding Performer, added to his case for a potential repeat by winning the 500 free in 4:16.58. It trimmed more than two seconds off the previous A-10 mark and more than three off his own Davidson record. Seeded first after prelims, Felt beat his closest competitor by 5.05 seconds. The time is an NCAA 'B' cut, and the gold medal is the Wildcats' first of the meet.
Diver Annica Valmassei found her way to the A-10 podium as well, taking silver in the 1-meter event. The A-10 3M champion two years ago, Valmassei posted a score of 261.45 to claim second.
Davidson records fell in the men's and women's 200 free relays, as both units placed fourth. Felt, Guil Ware, Zain Butt and Ian Brann set the men's mark at 1:20.10, while Addy Donaldson, Martha Tripsa, Leah Sandock and Chale Jacks put the women's record at 1:31.76.
Other top finishes Thursday included Sylvia Stewart-Bates in the 500 free (6th, 4:54.76), Anna Newman in the 200 IM (7th, 2:02.56) and Ware in the 50 free (8th, 20.47).
