
Rams Hold Off Wildcats on the Road Saturday

KINGSTON, R.I. – Despite a close first half, Sophie Phillips (17) and Dee Dee Davis (17) combined for 34 points and the Rams hot shooting from distance in the second half helped Rhode Island earn a 61-49 victory Saturday inside The Ryan Center.
The Wildcats, who had their four-game winning streak come to an end, move to 18-7 overall and 8-6 in Atlantic 10 competition while the Rams improve to 17-11 on the year and 9-6 in league action.
Regardless of the final score, freshman Katie Donovan had a career night as she tallied a team and season-high 16 points to go along with a career-best six rebounds as well as two assists and a steal. Donovan was 6-of-11 form the floor and 4-of-5 from the foul line.
Elle Sutphin (11) and Mallorie Haines (10) joined the rookie in double figures while Millie Prior collected 11 boards with six points.
After playing a close 17-14 first quarter and even 15-15 second to trail by just three at the half, the Wildcats hit the opening shot of the third quarter via Sutphin's step-back jumper to cut the lead to one point.
However, the Rams went on a 17-4 run to extend their advantage in addition to holding the 'Cats to only nine third quarter points to all but put the game out of reach.
Rhode Island, which drilled eight threes in the win, also got double figures from Touré,Mayé (14) and Tenin Magassa (10) while Ines Debroise dished out a game-high 10 assists.
