Sutphin and Hot-Shooting ‘Cats Knock off George Mason

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Along with torching the nets for 56 percent and drilling 10 3-pointers, Davidson's Elle Sutphin scored a game-high 24 points as the Wildcats knocked off George Mason, 75-67, Wednesday inside Belk Arena.
Davidson, which fell by 38 points to the Patriots a month ago in Fairfax, improves to 18-6 overall and 8-5 in Atlantic 10 play.
The Wildcats who got 15 points, including four treys, from Mallorie Haines, were just as impressive at the defensive end holding George Mason (19-5, 10-3) to just 37.5 percent.
Maddie Plank also stuffed the stat sheet for Davidson contributing six points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Trailing 22-13 at the end of one, the Wildcats shot 63.6 percent, including 4-of-5 from long range, while outscoring the Patriots 21-4 in the second quarter to lead 34-26 at the half. In addition, the 'Cats held George Mason to just one field goal in the period.
Davidson was even better in the third quarter connecting on 10-of-15 (.667) attempts to enter the final stanza with a 12-points advantage, 58-46.
Sutphin and Haines provided back-to-back triples to start the fourth as the 'Cats quickly pushed the margin to 18, 64-46, with 9:08 to play.
Mason placed four players in double figures, led by Ta'Viyanna Habib's 18 points.
