‘Cats Open Spring Campaign with 4th Place Finish in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. – Davidson opened its 2024 spring campaign with a fourth-place finish at the Hal Williams Collegiate hosted by the University of South Alabama.
The two-day event was played on Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove.
Will Davis, who led the Wildcats with a 69.33 stroke average in the fall, led the way with a 54-hole total of 210 (-3) to finish tied for 14th out of 80 competitors.
Highlighted by an opening round 7-under 64, Joshua Stewart (211 / -2) also finished inside the Top-20 for Davidson (274-287-288 | -3), which recorded its fourth Top-5 in five showings this season.
Alex Heffner (+1/T-31st), Price Miller (+3/T-41st) and Ben Newfield (+10/T-68th) were also in the Wildcat lineup.
Perennial power and nationally-ranked Illinois (-25) held off LSU (-22) to claim the team title, while the Tigers' Jay Mendell (-10) and Connor Gaunt (-9) finished 1-2 on the individual leaderboard.
In addition to the host Jaguars, the annual event featured Davidson, Illinois, Kansas State, Kent State, Louisiana, LSU, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Oral Roberts, Seton Hall, Southern Miss, Texas State and VCU.
