‘Cats Start Strong in Mobile; Darkness Suspends Round Two

MOBILE, Ala. – Highlighted by an opening round 10-under 274, Davidson sits in fourth place after day one of the Hal Williams Collegiate hosted by the University of South Alabama.
The two-day / 54-hole event is being played on Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove.
This afternoon's second round was suspended due to darkness and will be completed Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m. with the final 18 holes to follow.
Sparked by a 7-under 64 from sophomore Joshua Stewart (-4/T-6th), Davidson (-7) will be in fourth place nine strokes off the pace when play resumes. Alex Heffner (-2/T-16th), Price Miller (-1/T-20th), Will Davis (+1/T-35th) and Ben Newfield (+7/T-73rd) are also in the Wildcat lineup.
Perennial power and nationally-ranked Illinois leads the 14-team field at 16-under. VCU (-13) and LSU (-8) are just ahead of the Wildcats.
In addition to the Wildcats and host Jaguars, the annual event features Illinois, Kansas State, Kent State, Louisiana, LSU, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Oral Roberts, Seton Hall, Southern Miss, Texas State and VCU.
Piercen Hunt (Illinois) and Ugo Malcor (VCU) share the top spot on the 80-player individual leaderboard at 7-under.
