'Cats Fall on Opening Day to #23 Clemson
2/10/2024 5:19:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse
CLEMSON, S.C. – Arguably one of Davidson's toughest tests of the season came on Saturday afternoon, as the Wildcats fell to #23 Clemson 19-10 in their 2024 season opener.
Six different 'Cats appeared in the scoring column, while senior captain Julianne Carey led the way with three goals and one assist.
Payton Cheedled kicked off the season for the Wildcats, scoring the first goal of the game less than two minutes in. The Tigers answered right back, however, scoring six-straight goals before Josie Lambert notched her first goal in 329 days since suffering a season-ending knee injury last March.
After going into halftime at a 12-5 deficit, Clemson would stretch its lead to eight before Jenna Skibbe recorded her first career goal which would be Davidson's lone score of the third quarter.
In the fourth, the 'Cats went goal-for-goal with the Tigers as each team racked up four goals apiece before Clemson closed out the nine-point victory.
In addition to Skibbe's debut, freshman Brooke Ross also scored the first two goals of her career. Sophomore Alanna Dumalac led the 'Cats in the circle with five draw controls.
Netminder Paige Doyle made a career-high 14 saves.
