DAVIDSON – Gayle Fulks has been named to the 2025 Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Cocah of the Year Preseason Watch List presented by Her Hoops Stats.
To be eligible for the award, coaches must compete in one of the 26 conferences deemed to be "mid-major." The following conferences are considered high-major for the purposes of this award and thus ineligible: ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, and SEC. Additionally, Oregon State and Washington State are ineligible this year as membership in the Pac-12 Conference evolves. Interim head coaches are eligible, although total games coached will be taken into consideration.
In January, the 10-person midseason watch list will be announced. The five finalists for the award will then be announced in March, with the winner being named around the Final Four.
Coaches will be assessed across the entire season, including postseason play. Beyond on-court success, other factors such as recruiting, preseason expectations, injuries, and tactical coaching will also be weighed when assessing each candidate. Inclusion on previous watch lists is not a requirement to be considered for future watch lists.
Head Coach Gayle Fulks enters her eighth season at the helm of the program ahead of the 2024-25 slate.
Under Fulks' guidance, the Wildcats were selected to finish fourth in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll and junior guard Charlise Dunn was named to the A-10 Preseason All-Conference Second Team.
Davidson will get its first on-court action in a home exhibition 7 p.m. October 28 versus Wingate before tipping off the regular season hosting Florida Gulf Coast University 7 p.m. November 5.
Last season, the 'Cats finished with an 18-8 overall record including a 12-1start to the year. In a tough schedule, the Wildcats defeated two of their three ACC foes (RV/#22 Duke 69-62, Wake Forest 57-52) and came within two baskets of defeating the third (UNC 70-74).
Davidson picks up where it left off with a strong slate of non-conference opponents this season including High Point (Nov. 10), Cincinnati (Nov. 13), Wofford (Nov. 16), Wake Forest (Nov. 23), Presbyterian (Nov. 24), Virginia Tech (Nov. 29), Mighigan/Belmont (Nov. 30), Ball State (Dec. 5), NC State (Dec. 11), UNC Pembroke (Dec. 18) and Charlotte (Dec. 21).
