BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Davidson men's soccer team played a 1-1 draw against Virginia Tech at Thompson Field on Sunday night.
1st Half
The Wildcats were able to get the first three shots off in the contest as Jack Brown, Nicholas Cavallo, and Connor Smith all had opportunities. Smith's shot was sent on frame, but it was saved in the 16th minute.
The Hokies almost got on the board first in the 34th minute with a rocket shot, but goalkepper Lou Liedtka was in the right place at the right time and made the save to keep the game scoreless.
With about five minutes remaining in the first half, junior attacker Vincent Bennage settled the ball at his feet from outside the 18-yard line and ripped a shot into the upper right corner of the net to give Davidson the lead. It was Bennage's second goal in as many games.
2nd Half
Virginia Tech cranked up the pressure in the second half as the home team outshot Davidson 11-2 in the final 45 minutes. That pressure eventually led to the equalizer in the 63rd minute when Marcos Escoe finished a header on a corner set piece.
Denis Krioutchenkov and Alonzo Clarke recorded the only two shots for the Wildcats in the second half with both sent on frame. Lou Liedtka also made two saves in the final 25 minutes to keep the draw intact.
