Heffner Finishes Runner-Up, ‘Cats T-4th at VCU Shootout

RICHMOND, Va. – Led by Alex Heffner's runner-up showing, the Davidson men's golf team recorded their second straight Top-5 finish to begin the fall as the Wildcats came home tied for fourth at the 2023 VCU Shootout Tuesday.
Heffner, who shared the overnight lead, finished the 54-hole event at 203 (-13) highlighted by a school and tournament record 10-under 62 in round two. Heffner made the turn in 34 and led for much of the day before signing for an even-par 72.
The two-time A-10 Player of the Year led the field in birdies with 20 and Par 4 scoring (3.70/-9).
Davidson (841 | -23), which posted a 16-under 272 in round two, to climb into contention, closed with a one-over 289.
Coming off a third-place showing at River Run, Joshua Stewart continued his steady play for the 'Cats placing tied for 10th at 8-under 208 (68-68-72). Will Davis (72-67-70 | 209) finished one back of his teammate in a tie for 13th.
James Madison's Daniel Cheng claimed the individual title at 16-under, while the Dukes and Lipscomb shared the team title.
