NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Davidson middle blocker Mia Compas is the Atlantic 10 Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
The honor is the first of the career for the freshman from Carlsbad, Calif., and she's the second Wildcat recognized by the league this season, following Bella Brady's Defensive Player of the Week honor (Sept. 5).
Compas led the Wildcats' offense in the best weekend of her young career, swinging .419 during a 1-1 performance. She recorded 22 kills, including a season-high 13 against three-time Big South champion High Point on Sunday. She averaged 2.75 kills per set for the week and also totaled seven blocks.
Through eight matches this year, Compas is hitting .349 and has totaled 29 kills.
Compas and the 7-1 Wildcats return to action Thursday, Sept. 14 when they host Appalachian State in Belk Arena.
