AMHERST, Mass. – The Davidson men's track and field team had four first-place finishes and eight medalists to close out the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships on Sunday. Jayden Smith was also named the Most Outstanding Track Performer along with VCU's Emmanuel Waller.
Highlights
Jayden Smith's historic run of 13.42 seconds in the 110-meter hurdle finals not only gave him back-to-back Atlantic 10 crowns, but it puts him in elite company on a national scale. This mark places the Richmond, Va. native seventh in the country. Smith has now swept the 110-meter hurdles and 60-meter indoor event in back-to-back years. Today's performance also broke meet and facility records as he was named Co-Most Outstanding Track Performer of the meet.
On the note of back-to-back, Josh Hardin also repeated as the 400-meter A-10 Champion. The North Carolina native became the first Wildcat to run the 400 in under 47 seconds with a 46.79 which puts him in the top 50 on the NCAA East Preliminary list.
Joe dosReis upped his career A-10 medal count to ten, and he earned his first outdoor gold medal when he finished first in the 1500-meters. dosReis broke the meet and facility record by crossing the line in 3:44.26. He also earned gold for his anchor leg on the 4x800 relay team today.
Davidson's 4x800 relay team cruised to it's first Atlantic 10 Championship as Miles Kominsky, Jack Muldoon, Owen Drometer, and dosReis ran a 7:26.37. This mark snapped the previous school record of 7:36.60 from 2021.
Four other Wildcats medaled on the day: Jack Stajos, Owen Drometer, and Bryce Anthony (twice). Stajos set a new outdoor record in the shot put when his long toss of 16.97 meters was good enough for silver, and Owen Drometer took bronze in the 800-meters by stopping the clock in 1:50.06. Anthony ended the day with a silver in the 400 hurdles when he recorded a 51.47, then took third in the 110 hurdles after crossing the line in 14 seconds flat.
Jack Curtin set a new personal-best and broke the Davidson outdoor record in the triple jump with his mark of 15.17 meters. Curtin took fifth to score for the Wildcats.
