AIKEN, S.C. – Brian Garrett came home tied for second and Davidson recorded another Top-5 showing with a fourth-place finish at the 2023 Cleveland Golf Palmetto.
Hosted by the University of South Carolina Aiken, the two-day event was played on the Par 70, 6,617-yard Palmetto Golf Club layout.
Garrett, who entered the final round tied for seventh, fired a one-under 69 to finish the 54-hole event at 206 (-4). A senior from San Antonio, Texas, Garrett started the Wildcats' Spring Break trip with a career-low 65 Monday morning.
In all, Garrett posted 12 birdies and an eagle over his three rounds.
Alex Heffner (70-70-71) continued his steady play joining his teammate in the Top-10 with a ninth-place finish at one-over 211.
Battling windy conditions, Davidson (279-283-291 = 853) signed for a 291 this afternoon to finish fourth ahead of Virginia Tech and just behind Wisconsin. After five sub-par team scores yesterday, the entire 15-team field was over par Tuesday.
Through six events this season, the Wildcats have recorded four Top-5 showings.
Joshua Stewart (216 | T-19), Will Davis (220 | T-34) and Ethan Hall (234 | 72) were also in the Davidson lineup.
South Carolina (-2) claimed the team title by 10 shots over Furman, while Tobias Johnson (Mercer) led wire-to-wire to win the individual crown.
