St. Simons Island, Ga. – Davidson continued its impressive play Friday as the Wildcats grabbed the outright lead of the 2023 Sea Palms Invitational highlighted by a career and tournament-low 64 from sophomore Will Davis, who is also tied atop the 120-player field.
The three-day/54-hole event is being played on the Par 71, 6,664-yard Sea Palms Resort layout.
Davidson (-27), which entered day two tied with Wright State atop the 20-team leaderboard, fired a tournament-record 14-under 270, one better than its opening round total, to take a seven-shot advantage over the Raiders.
After 29 birdies in their opening round, the Wildcats posted 19 birdies and three eagles today.
Davis (68-64 = 132) had just one blemish on his card recording six birdies and an eagle to climb into a tie for first at 10-under. The 2022 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year will enter the final round tied with Jacksonville State's Erik Jansson (-10), one clear of Mikkel Mathiesen (-9) from Wright State.
Coming off a runner-up showing to begin the week, Brian Garrett (-6) carded his fourth sub-par round in his last five outings with a 69. Classmate Ethan Hall (-3) bounced back in impressive fashion with 4-under 67 featuring a 28 on his inward nine thanks to a pair of eagles.
Like Hall, Joshua Stewart (69-70 = 139 | -3) is tied for 14th, while Alex Heffner (67-74 = 141 | -1) fell just outside the Top-25.
In all, Davidson has six players inside the Top-30, including individual competitor Price Miller who stands at one-under 141 (69-72).
Tomorrow's third and final round will begin at 7:30 a.m. Davidson will be paired with Wright State, UCF and Jacksonville State beginning at 9:20 a.m. off the first hole.
