GENEVA, Ohio — Freshman swimmer Dylan Felt completed a performance twice dubbed "Outstanding" by the Atlantic 10 Conference Saturday on the fourth and final day of the A-10 Championships at SPIRE Institute.
With another event win — and a conference record — Saturday, the young Wildcat star earned both Most Outstanding Rookie and Most Outstanding Performer honors from the conference.
Felt won the men's 1,650 free with a conference (and program) record time of 15:09.08, earning his second gold medal of the meet (also 500 free). In the process, he also improved upon his school record in the 1,000 (9:14.42).
Felt also joined Ben McClain, Ian Brann and Guil Ware on the 400 free relay, which set a Davidson record (2:58.31), while finishing fourth.
For the meet, Felt secured four medals, also including silvers in the 200 free and the 800 free relay. He now owns school records in the 200, 500, 1,000 and 1,650 free and is on two school-record relays.
Stanley finishes strong
While Felt emerged as a force in the conference, senior Shelby Stanley finished her conference career with strong swims.
The two-time A-10 Most Outstanding Performer, Stanley took silver in the 200 fly to earn her third individual medal of the meet — and her 20th career A-10 medal. She added one more a little later when she joined Chale Jacks, Martha Tripsa and Abby Francis on the 400 free relay team that took bronze (3:22.61).
Other Highlights
Francis secured a bronze medal for herself in the 100 free (50.00). Other top-8 finishes came in the 1,650, where Sylvia Stewart-Bates (16:53.87) and Kate Pottle (16:57.01) took sixth and eighth, respectively.
For the men, Fletcher Smith swam sixth in the 200 fly (1:47.58), while Brann was seventh in the 100 free (44.83). The Wildcats also added eighth-place finishes from Jeremy Kemp (100 back, 1:47.00), Andrew Schou (200 breast, 2:01.45) and Henry Logan (1,650 free, 15:47.03). In 3-meter diving, James Gourlay was fourth (311.55), and Ben Cutforth was seventh (297.80).
In the team standings, Davidson's men finished fourth among eight teams with 456.5 points, while the women were sixth of 11 teams (310 points). George Washington swept the team titles for the second straight season.
