Felt-led Wildcats Capture Medals, Break Records Thursday

GENEVA, Ohio — Freshman Dylan Felt took gold in the 500 freestyle and was part of three record-breaking performances to highlight Davidson's second day of action at the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships at the SPIRE Institute.
"A day filled with great swims," said coach John Young. "Dylan's 500 was a well-executed masterpiece. I loved both relays, even though the women's was a minuscule jump. With a lot of swimming left, hopefully the men enjoy being in a scrum for second and the women can have fun clawing back into the group of teams ahead of us."
Felt set the 500 free school record twice Thursday, first with the top time in prelims (4:23.09). He cut more than three seconds off that mark during finals and won comfortably with a time of 4:20.02. The Davidson record is his second already, after he posted the best 1,000 free time last month in a dual at William & Mary.
But Felt wasn't done Thursday. He also joined Ian Brann, Guil Ware and Ben McClain on the 200 free relay team that set a new program mark (1:20.46) and placed fourth.
The Wildcats secured one other medal Thursday, and it came from senior Shelby Stanley in the women's 200 IM. Stanley swam third with a time of 2:00.27 to secure her first medal of the championships.
Other top finishes Thursday came from Brann in the 50 free (5th, 20.35), Martha Tripsa in the 50 free (7th, 23.33) and James Gourlay in 1-meter diving (7th, 290.75).
